Earl J. Salisbury and Groucho
I happened to recall a curious family story tonight. My grandfather, Earl
J., was the manager of the Chicago Theatre at the time the Marx Brothers
were popular and on tour. It seems that Groucho and Earl became friends
and they would meet (when the Marx Brothers were in town) to play poker
at Earl's younger sister's Kathryn Lewis (wife of Edward Lewis) home (I
think it was in an apartment building on Elm Street).
Earl J. Salisbury passed away in 1930. The obituary appeared in the "Vidette
Messenger" on June 13, 1930.
